The Dark Side of the Genetically Modified Food Industry

Being a medical doctor for more than 15 years and having spent many of those researching organic living, I thought I had a firm grasp on the effects of genetically modified foods on our health and the environment.


I recently conducted an interview with Dr Maarten Stapper, who has worked as a scientist for 30 years in 4 continents including Australia as a CSIRO scientist.

We discuss the issues surrounding genetically modified foods and the effects on our health and the environment. I was blown away by the depth of his knowledge and I was alarmed by what he has to say regarding the process involved in the introduction of these genetically modified organisms (GMOs) into our food chain.


Whether we like it or not, this technology will affect each and every one of us. We all need to listen to what he has to say about GMOs in our food and the science behind genetic modification.


According to Dr Stapper, there have not been any studies conducted to determine the long term health effects of these genetically modified foods. There is mounting evidence to suggest the consumption of GMOs can have detrimental effects on your health and your children’s health.


Do you know that “75% of the processed foods you buy from the supermarkets have GMOs”?


The labelling laws in Australia do not require all products with GMOs to be labelled. The chances are you are already eating these foods without even knowing it. When was the last time you had a packet of chips or a hamburger from the local takeaway?

    A recent study released by the International Journal of Biological Sciences found that Monsanto’s GM Corn causes liver and kidney damage in lab rats. Monsanto only released the raw data after a legal challenge from Greenpeace, the Swedish Board of Agriculture, and French anti- GM campaigners. I’m sure the corn is fine to feed to our cattle or eat ourselves though. Right?

      Hope you are having a great easter holiday. Thank you for your comment. Yes, that’s a very interesting study and aren’t we glad that the raw data was finally made public! It showed that there are problems with genetically modified foods. I am sure you have read the study findings. We still need long term feeding studies to prove that GM crops and foods are safe for consumption, especially for humans. We follow a precautionary approach. We would rather avoid GM foods until we know for sure. Honestly, we don’t need to eat these type of foods. There are other alternatives. What we also need is transparent labelling laws so we can make an informed choice with what we buy and eat.
